2022 Primary Election results are in for local and state races
Holmes County voters turned out to cast ballots for their favorite candidates in the 2022 Florida Primary Election on Aug. 23.
Brandon Newsom secured another term as Holmes County Commissioner in District 2.
Newsom captured 1,690 votes, or 42.92 percent. Contender Josh Jackson pulled in 1,182, or 30.02 percent, of the vote. Albert Jordan finished out with 1,066 votes, or 27.07 percent.

Two mothers of Holmes County students entered and won the races for Holmes County School Board Member in Districts 1 and 3.
Charley Wilson, a nurse and mother of two Bonifay K-8 students, won the District 1 seat with 2,220, or 57.01 percent, of votes. Milton Tad Wilson received 1,674 votes, or 42.99 percent.
Long time board member Alan Justice was defeated in District 3 by Natalie Motley Miller. Miller, mom to two Bethlehem School students, secured 2,043 votes, or 52.34 percent. Justice finished with 1,860 votes, or 47.66 percent.
In the Republican race for Florida State Senate District 2, Jay Trumbull came out on top with Holmes County voters with 2,657 ballots cast, or 83.32 percent. Contender Regina Piazza secured 16.68 percent of the vote in Holmes with 532 total votes.
Trumbull will run against Democratic candidate Carolynn Zonia in the General Election Nov. 8.
Republican candidate Shane Abbott pulled out on top in the race for Florida House of Representatives District 5 with 65.77 percent of the vote in Holmes at 2,586 total votes.
Clint Pate secured 960 votes, or 24.42 percent. Vance Coley finished with 386 votes, or 9.82 percent.
Holmes County has 11,312 active eligible voters. A total of 35.84 percent of voters turned out for the Primary Election.
A total of 7,559 Holmes voters are Republican; 2,239 voters are Democrat; and 1,583 are registered as other.
