Long-time city councilman resigns amid ethics violation proceeding
Bonifay City Council has its second resignation in a month with the departure of Councilman Roger Brooks.
Brooks issued a one-line resignation letter dated Sept. 23 that simply states, “The Bonifay City Council: Effective today I resign my position as City Councilman, Seat 3, Bonifay, Florida.”
Brooks is a long-time city council member who is awaiting the final hearing in an ethics complaint filed with the Florida Commission on Ethics. Brooks admitted to and the commission is seeking a civil penalty with probable cause found in one out of ten separate complaints filed by former city clerk Beverly Gilley.

His resignation follows that of James “Eddie” Sims, who left his post as mayor of Bonifay citing the reason for retirement Aug. 25.
