Holmes school board welcomes new members
Holmes County School District swore in two new members and one who ran unopposed for another term Nov. 22.
New to the board are Natalie Miller for District 3 and Charley Wilson who represents District 1. District 5 member Leesa Lee was sworn in to serve another term after running unopposed in the primary election. Miller and Wilson each have two children currently attending school in the district.
I felt led to pursue this position because I believe that as an engaged and proactive mother of two, I can be a voice and advocate for all of the students in our community and schools, said Wilson. Every decision I make will have all of our childrens best interests in mind.
Miller said she wants to bring more parent involvement back into the schools in any way possible from fundraising for school sports and clubs to helping keep the campuses clean and in top working order.
Wilson said she is proud of the measures the district takes to provide safety and security for students and staff. She said the training and close partnership with Holmes County Sheriff’s Office eases her mind when she thinks about the children’s safety throughout their school days.
Miller said she hopes to help the district prepare for growth as more families move to Holmes County and the district struggles to stay fully staffed like districts all over the country.
We have to find ways to provide better classroom management support so they will not fail as a teacher and are able to provide a learning environment for our students as best as can be, Miller said.
Wilson and Miller agree that they are ready to get to work on the boards objectives.
I believe that in order to be successful, we have to remain open to the fact that there is always room for improvement, Wilson said. I believe that the school board does a great job, and I am looking forward to doing my part, hearing from our citizens, and continuously educating myself so that I can always make the best decisions for our education system.
