Caryville to reel in a weekend full of fish

[CONTRIBUTED] Children are encouraged to participate in the Bad Cat Classic to experience the fishing lifestyle and be entered to win a lifetime fishing license for Florida.

The Holmes County UF/IFAS Extension office will be holding their annual Fish Fest on September 7 from 8 am until noon at the boat landing in Caryville. The office encourages everyone to come learn to fish and get tips from professional anglers like Tim Trone, a Georgia state Catfish record holder. Sponsors of the festival have supplied free fishing rods to be given out to children that attend the event, while supplies last. For more information Call Kalyn at 850-547-1108 or Willie at 850-557-5938.

The 2024 “Bad Cat Classic” will also be hosted with this event. This competition is for flathead, blue, and channel catfish with a fee of $100 per boat if one member is under 17 years of age. If one member is not under 17, an additional $25 fee is required which goes towards buying a lifetime fishing license for kids in the tournament. Registration begins September 7 at 4 pm and fishing will be on the Choctawhatchee River from 6pm until 9 am on Sunday. A team limit of two fish, alive & in good condition, will be weighed in. If you have questions call Kalyn at 407-619-9862 or Jason Pugh at 850-768-8665. Complete Rules and Regulations and Entry Forms can be found at https://www.panhandleagconnection.com/bad-cat-classic
