About 37 percent of Holmes County’s 11,036 registered voters were reported as turn out for the August 20 Primary Election.
Initial results show that voters chose to re-elect incumbents School Superintendent Buddy Brown (R), Tax Collector Harry Bell (R), County Commissioner Clint Erickson (R), and State Attorney Larry Basford (R).
Voters also selected several challengers to step into new local leadership roles, Wilmer Stafford (R) as District 1 County Commissioner, Mitch Johnson (R) as District 3 County Commissioner, and Derek Worley as District 4 School Board Member.
With just a seven vote difference between them, the race for School Board District 4 board member seat is too close to call between incumbent Shirley Owens and challenger Derek Worley. As a result, there will be a mandatory runoff.
