Law enforcement searching for fugitive after traffic stop turns into pursuit

On Thursday, April 4, a high-speed pursuit unfolded involving a suspect later identified as Rodney Leon  Broxton Jr. from Chipley. The pursuit, initiated by deputies from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, began when a routine traffic stop was attempted on a black Chevy car.  

Broxton is being sought by HCSO. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Broxton can contact HCSO at 850- 547-3681 ext. 1 or local law enforcement immediately.

“Broxton, upon the deputy’s approach, fled the scene, igniting a pursuit that traversed multiple roadways in the  area,” a news release said. “The pursuit route took deputies down Hwy. 90 to Caryville, then north on Hwy. 179 onto Tobe Rutherford Rd.,  and finally onto Hwy 177-A, with speeds exceeding 100 mph.”

Despite the deployment of resources, including Holmes and NWFR CI K-9 teams, Broxton managed to evade capture after abandoning the vehicle on Robin Hood Lane and fleeing on foot. 

“Rodney Leon Broxton is wanted on several felony warrants issued out of Washington County and the vehicle he was driving was reported stolen out of Jackson County,” the news release said. “Warrants are currently being obtained for Broxton on charges including fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, and resisting arrest without violence.”
