FHP reports serious crash in Holmes County

A serious two-vehicle crash last night in Holmes County sent both drivers to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 81 and State Road 2. A 26-year-old male driver from Ponce De Leon, Florida, was traveling north on SR 81 in a sedan when his vehicle drifted into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a pickup truck traveling southbound.

The pickup truck was driven by a 54-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York. Both drivers suffered serious injuries in the crash. The younger driver was airlifted to Fort Walton Medical Center for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that next of kin for both individuals had not yet been notified at the time of the report.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident. It remains unclear whether the sedan driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

No other passengers or pedestrians were involved in the accident.
