Holmes County agencies participate in active shooter tabletop exercise

Representatives from law enforcement, school administration, emergency services, and public health agencies participate in a tabletop active shooter exercise led by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Regional Domestic Security Task Force.

Multiple agencies gathered for a tabletop active shooter training exercise recently aimed at enhancing interagency coordination and response in the event of a campus-based emergency. The exercise was held in partnership with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Regional Domestic Security Task Force.

Participants included School Resource Deputies from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the Holmes District School Board, Holmes County Health Department, EMS, local fire departments, and emergency management personnel from Holmes, Walton, and Okaloosa counties.

The exercise focused on improving decision-making, communication, and joint response strategies during an active shooter incident occurring on school grounds. Officials said the training was intended to evaluate preparedness and promote a unified approach to crisis response across jurisdictions and disciplines.

No real-world incidents occurred, and the exercise was conducted in a controlled, discussion-based format.
