On July 20, a Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy observed a four-wheeler traveling southbound on Hwy. 79 in Esto. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop by activating his emergency lights and siren; however, the driver refused to comply.
A pursuit ensued as the driver continued onto 1st Avenue, eventually leaving the road and entering a field. The deputy maintained visual contact as he followed into the field. The driver then tried to exit the field onto John Clark Road but was traveling too fast, causing the vehicle to overshoot the road and crash.
The driver, identified as James McKnight, was taken into custody. McKnight is now facing multiple charges, including fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, and violation of state probation.
