According to a release from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), three individuals have been charged in connection with a liquor theft in Ponce de Leon that is tied to a series of similar crimes across Florida and Georgia.
On March 25, HCSO deputies responded to 81 Liquors after receiving reports that several masked individuals entered the store and stole more than $1,400 worth of liquor. An investigation determined the same suspects were involved in a similar theft in Jackson County, Florida, the previous day. HCSO also reported that two Georgia law enforcement agencies were actively investigating the same individuals for related incidents.
The suspects — Jahaysia Anderson, Amiah Lovette, and Jade Stewart — were ultimately apprehended in Habersham County, Georgia. According to HCSO, evidence recovered during their arrest connected them to the Holmes County theft, and warrants were subsequently issued for each individual.
Each suspect faces charges of grand theft, dealing in stolen property, and possession of alcohol by a person under 21, per the HCSO report.
Sheriff John Tate, in the release, expressed gratitude to the assisting agencies, which included the Toccoa, Clarkesville, and Baldwin Police Departments; the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office; and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.
“This case is a great example of what can be accomplished when agencies work together,” said Sheriff Tate. “We appreciate the teamwork that helped bring these individuals to justice.”
