The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam involving individuals falsely claiming to be Sgt. James King or Lt. Caleb Terry—names not associated with any employee of the department.
According to the HCSO, the caller, posing as law enforcement, informs residents they have an active warrant and must take immediate action. The scammer may spoof the sheriff’s office phone number to appear legitimate and could pressure individuals to provide personal information or make payments to “resolve” the situation.
The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that deputies will never call to demand payment or request sensitive personal information such as Social Security or bank details.
Anyone who receives such a call is urged by the HCSO to hang up immediately and verify the claim by calling the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office directly at 850-547-3681.
Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and speak with family members—particularly elderly loved ones—who may be more vulnerable to such tactics.
