A 37 percent voter turnout was calculated for Holmes County on August 20. Within this percentage, was first-time voter Guadalupe Jenkins. “For me, it is a blessing and a great experience to have the honor of the opportunity to vote and elect representatives in this beautiful country,” said Jenkins. At the Women’s Club political rally on July 18, Jenkins registered to vote for the first time in Holmes County and eagerly anticipated election day.
“We are all very excited for her,” said Holmes County Supervisor of Elections Rusty Williams.
Deputy Supervisor of Elections Barbara Reeves and Williams assisted Jenkins during the political rally with registration. Jenkins has had a goal to vote in the United States since the beginning of this year.
Jenkins hopes that her experience motivates others to vote for gratitude. “Voting is my way of thanking this country that has given me so much, we all want a better future for our families,” added Jenkins.
