On September 17, the Holmes County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a small-scale amendment to the Land Use Map, impacting four parcels located near Interstate 10 in Ponce de Leon. Collectively, these parcels encompass a total of 23.58 acres, with individual plot sizes of 3.71 acres, 3.33 acres, 4 acres, and 12.53 acres.
The amendment reclassifies the future land use of the parcels from agricultural to commercial, allowing for future commercial development in the area. The Planning Committee initially reviewed and unanimously approved the amendment on August 8, prior to its final approval by the County Commissioners on September 17.
This decision marks a significant shift in the county’s land use policy for the affected parcels, aligning with broader development objectives aimed at facilitating commercial growth in Ponce de Leon.
