Recently, there have been numerous complaints about the condition of the first Westville Post Office. The citizens of Westville are upset to see a piece of their history in such disrepair. Rachel Herrington, the owner of the property, mentioned that the post office came with the property, and she has made efforts to restore and maintain the building to prevent further deterioration. Despite efforts such as tarping and repairing, each passing storm causes more damage to the building.
Rachel has donated the building to the city, but she stated that “The city needs $12,000 to move and restore the building, but the necessary grants and funding are currently unavailable.”
Rachel informed us that unfortunately, the building will need to be demolished eventually. The building is unsafe, and the necessary funds to restore it are not available. However, the citizens may still be able to admire their history. Rachel stated that they plan to take the original wood of the building and make it into frames which will hold pictures of the post office in its original glory. Rachel intends to take a piece of history and display it to pay tribute to those who are a part of it.
