The Safe Act, which is now in effect for Holmes County residents, allows individuals completing a motor vehicle registration to voluntarily disclose if they, or their children, have been diagnosed with certain disabilities or disorders. The initiative intends to improve safety and awareness in emergency situations by providing first responders with pertinent information about potential health conditions of drivers and their children. Additionally, The Safe Act informs responders that someone in the vehicle may react in an unexpected way.
The word “safe” will show on a vehicle’s registration and will be available to rescuers who may respond to an event or emergency situation. Disabilities or disorders that are listed in the act are as follows; Autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, Diabetes, Autoimmune disorders, deafness, blindness, any other mentally or physically limiting disorder. Participation in this program is completely voluntary and can be completed at your local DMV office.
