Carmel Assembly’s beloved Chicken Perleu event is back this year on Monday, November 4th, offering an evening filled with food, community, and tradition. Taking place from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Carmel Assembly on 1485 Carmel Church Rd., the annual fundraiser invites residents and visitors alike to enjoy an all-you-can-eat Chicken Perleu feast for $10 per person.

The tradition began 26 years ago when members of Carmel Assembly visited a small church north of Tallahassee, where Chicken Perleu was served as a community fundraiser. Impressed by the event, Carmel Assembly adapted the idea for their own church and began hosting the fundraiser in Bonifay, using the recipe they obtained under an agreement not to share it publicly.

“All of the proceeds from Carmel Assembly’s Chicken Perleu go to supporting missions around the world, particularly in the area of providing building materials and manpower for the construction of new churches,” said lead pastor Jerry Moore. The event requires around 100 volunteers each year, cooking a unique recipe cooked in large black washpots over open flames. “We invite everyone to come by Monday evening, November 4 and get a plate of Perleu,” added Moore.
