Bonifay police officer honored for heroism

Officer Jasley Medley of the Bonifay Police Department was recently honored at the August 18 Bonifay City Council meeting as Employee of the Quarter for her outstanding contributions and service to the community. In addition to this recognition, Police Chief Johnny Whitaker presented Medley with the “Life Saving Award” from the American Police Hall of Fame in honor of her life-saving actions earlier this year.

In June 2025, while dining at Castaways Seafood Restaurant in Bonifay, Officer Medley noticed a patron showing signs of a blocked airway and immediately began performing life-saving measures. Officer Medley successfully cleared the obstruction and restored the woman’s ability to breathe. 

The victim, a visitor from Missouri, expressed her heartfelt thanks to Officer Medley, praising her for saving her life.

This is not the first time Officer Medley’s quick thinking and swift intervention has saved a life.

In June 2024, Medley rescued a mother and child from drowning in Wrights Creek in Holmes County. Despite being off-duty, when Medley heard the emergency notification signaling from her radio, she jumped into action. Upon arriving at the scene, Medley found two small children and a bystander, who was frantically pointing to a section of creek approximately 30 yards downstream. It was here that Officer Medley located a mother and child clinging to a tree limb in deep water; the mother, unable to swim, was losing strength. Medley dove into the creek, rescuing the child first and bringing them safely to shore before returning to save the mother.

“I am truly honored to receive such recognition from the City of Bonifay and the American Police Hall of Fame,” said Medley of receiving this recognition. “It’s truly an honor to serve the citizens of Bonifay.”
