A residential structure fire late Tuesday night left one juvenile injured and caused extensive damage to a home in the Dogwood Lakes community, according to Bonifay Fire-Rescue.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, Bonifay Fire-Rescue units responded to reports of a structure fire in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, incident command confirmed that all occupants had safely exited the residence. One juvenile sustained burn injuries and was airlifted to a regional trauma burn center for treatment. No additional injuries were reported at the scene.
Fire crews encountered a fully involved structure upon arrival and initiated an exterior defensive attack due to the extent of the fire. More than 50,000 gallons of water were used to bring the blaze under control and complete extinguishment operations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Bonifay Fire-Rescue expressed appreciation to the assisting agencies that responded to the incident, including Holmes County EMS (Rescue 1 and Rescue 3), the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Chipley Fire Rescue, Pittman Fire Department, Esto Fire Department, Graceville Fire Department, Hartford Fire Department, and Black Fire Department.
Fire officials also thanked neighbors and community members who offered assistance and support to the affected residents in the aftermath of the fire.
