The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and the Holmes County Board of County Commissioners have partnered on a beautification project following the county’s award of a Florida Department of Transportation beautification grant for the Highway 79 and Highway 81 state line areas.

To maximize the impact of the grant funding, HCSO inmate work crews will handle the labor instead of a contractor. Officials said using inmate crews allows more of the grant money to be directed toward purchasing equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and other maintenance tools, without additional cost to taxpayers.

The project aims to improve the appearance of two major gateways into Holmes County while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Once completed, the areas will continue to be maintained by HCSO work crews.

HCSO expressed appreciation to Liberty Partners for assisting in securing the grant and supporting the project.
