I am Emily Rone McCann, and I am running for Mayor of Bonifay. I am a lifelong resident of Bonifay, living continuously within the city limits since October 2013. Currently, I live on the north end of Waukesha with my husband, Leo, our two daughters, Penelope and Harper, and our two pups, Sampson and Rocko.

I am an employee of PAEC, serving education stakeholders, at all levels, on best practices for serving and advocating for students with disabilities. I also serve as an adjunct professor for the American College of Education. Until qualifying as a candidate for mayor, I was an appointed council member for the City of Bonifay.

I am a lifelong learner and enjoy every opportunity to grow my skill set, both personally and professionally. I graduated from Holmes County High in 2007. I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of West Florida in 2010 and 2012, respectively. After a seven-year break, I started my doctoral degree and in early 2021, I graduated from Liberty University.

Community and partnership are central components to the way I live my life. I firmly believe the greatest one ever hopes to be, will be found when we work together for the common good. Civic pride and civic responsibility drive my desire to serve the city and its citizens as your mayor. Every good thing in my life can be traced back to this city. And as your mayor or just your neighbor, I hope to continue to spend the rest of my life right here, adding back to the place that has given me so much.

I feel my history has proven I am ready and qualified for the position of mayor. In addition to my time on the city council, I served as a board member for the Downtown Economic Revitalization Committee, founding president of the City’s 501c3 Waukesha Way, and am the coordinator of the grassroots downtown mural project (none of which were funded by or utilized employees from the City of Bonifay). Additionally, I’ve served as the Holmes County Special Olympics director and volunteered with mentorship programs and advisory committees.

Bonifay is the greatest place to live. While there is work to be done, I wholeheartedly believe it can be accomplished in a way that honors our history, strengthens our present, and secures our future. I hope to be your Mayor as I help with the City’s intentional and purposeful progress.

Regardless of the name you select on the ballot, I hope we all have one thing in common on March 28, we exercise our right and freedom to vote.
