This Saturday, July 27, at 7:00 PM, at the Holmes County High School Auditorium, members from the cast of Smokey Joe’s Café will reunite to perform the best of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music. Doors to the event will open at 6:30.
Rock & Roll began to dominate popular music starting in the mid-1950s with origins in a variety of genres. Doo-Wop, a genre of rhythm & blues music, rose in prominence along with the rise of rock & roll. The saxophone became a standard instrument in rock music in the 1950s and 1960s. Early rock ‘n’ roll artists incorporated saxophone solos into their distinct sound, which also featured prominent electric guitars and pianos.
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller virtually invented rock ‘n’ roll, and now their songs provide the basis for an electrifying entertainment that illuminates a golden age of American culture.
The performance will include songs such as On Broadway, Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog, There Goes My Baby, Treat Me Nice, Stand By Me, Yakety Yak, Charlie Brown, and many more.
Performing will be Casey Johnson, Bradlee Johnson, Shelby Gardner, Randi Boyd, Raina Jackson, Sophia Pollard, Madalyn Crutchfield, Cade Foxworth, Zeb Driggers, A.J. Dorsla, Tanner Steele, and Gavin Braddy. The band will include Seth Crutchfield, Logan Harris, Noah Wagner, Sam Nolen, and Ricky Ward.
There will be no charge for this special performance but donations to the HCHS Drama Department will be accepted.
