On Saturday, September 21, a free registration National Sickle Cell Awareness Month walk will take place at Etta Hudson Park in Bonifay beginning at 8 a.m. The event aims to raise awareness about sickle cell disease, a genetic blood disorder that affects hemoglobin in red blood cells and reduces their ability to carry oxygen efficiently.
Sickle Cell Disease advocate Shenika Richardson states, “The goal of the walk is to educate the community and raise awareness. The devastating impact of this disease can begin as soon as birth and affect all aspects of life.” Community members can expect vendors, games, giveaways, and food on following and during the 2nd annual awareness walk.
Walkers can register at https://tinyurl.com/bonifayscdwalk2 and arrive at Etta Hudson Park on Oklahoma Street in Bonifay at 8 a.m.
