Emergency crews responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on State Road 79, just south of the Bonifay city limits in Washington County, Thursday, April 10. The incident involved nine individuals, including four children.
Upon arrival, Bonifay Fire Department Assistant Chief Cook was directed to an unresponsive child on the side of the highway. The child had no pulse and was not breathing. According to officials, Cook initiated CPR, continuing the cycle of compressions and rescue breaths until emergency medical services personnel arrived and assumed care.
The child, identified as Trinity, was later transported for further treatment. According to the fire department, she awoke and is recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Two weeks after the incident, Cook visited Trinity and her family at a hospital in Pensacola. Bonifay Fire Rescue stated in a press release that the actions of first responders, EMS personnel, and hospital staff contributed to Trinity’s recovery. Assistant Chief Cook’s efforts on the scene were recognized by the department for their role in the outcome.

The Bonifay Fire Department is encouraging continued support for Trinity and her family. A GoFundMe page has been established by her family to assist with medical and recovery expenses. If anyone interested in donating may find it on GoFundMe under “Trinity’s Fight”.
