Steven Lee, formerly of the Bonifay Police Department, was recently honored with the Police Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained in the line of duty in 2004.

This award is given to officers who are injured or disabled while performing their duties and meet specific criteria, including seeking professional medical attention and being out of work for at least one week.

The incident–which occurred on March 27, 2004–left Lee injured but his recovery and dedication to service were recognized by his peers and superiors.

Bonifay Police Chief Johnny Whitaker presented the award to Lee, highlighting his bravery and resilience.

“I could not have made the recovery I did without my family and law enforcement friends,” Lee said. “This is as much mine as it is everyone’s who was a part of March 27, 2004. Thank you.”
