Deputy Herrington keeps Holmes County safe, one tail at a time

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office recognized Deputy Steve Herrington during National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week for his dedication to handling a wide range of animal-related incidents across the county.

In recognition of National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week, the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office has acknowledged the service and dedication of Deputy Steve Herrington, who serves as the county’s primary animal control officer.

Deputy Herrington is known for managing a wide variety of animal-related situations across Holmes County. From retrieving livestock that have wandered from their enclosures to handling more unusual encounters with wildlife and domesticated pets, his role often requires quick thinking, patience, and a steady hand.

The Sheriff’s Office highlighted Herrington’s consistent commitment to public safety—both for residents and animals—and commended his ability to remain calm and professional in unpredictable situations. “His work ensures that both people and animals are protected and handled humanely in all scenarios,” stated the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office Social Media statement.
