The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has made an arrest in its investigation of missing FedEx packages, bringing relief to local residents who had been awaiting their deliveries.
HCSO officials worked closely with FedEx to identify the driver assigned to the undelivered parcels. The investigation pointed to Latavion Lewis, a contracted FedEx worker from Alabama, as the individual responsible.
Deputies arranged to meet Lewis, who voluntarily came to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office for an interview. During questioning, Lewis admitted to discarding undelivered packages at multiple locations. He told deputies he made the decision because it was late and he did not want to return the items to the FedEx warehouse.
So far, authorities have recovered 44 packages as part of the investigation. The recovered items were transferred to the Bonifay Post Office, where postal workers ensured the packages were delivered to their intended recipients.
Lewis has been taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including Organized Scheme to Defraud, Grand Theft, and Illegal Dumping.
Sheriff John Tate praised the swift action of HCSO deputies in identifying and apprehending the suspect. He also extended his gratitude to the Bonifay Post Office for its assistance in recovering and distributing the packages.
“This was a collaborative effort that ensured justice was served and our community’s trust in law enforcement was upheld,” Sheriff Tate said in a press release on December 21.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine if additional packages or locations are involved.
