According to Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies HCSO were actively searching the Gritney area, May 18, for a stolen truck when a deputy observed the vehicle traveling south on Highway 179. The deputy attempted a traffic stop at Tobe Rutherford Road, but the driver allegedly refused to stop, initiating a pursuit.
According to HCSO, the suspect continued down Tobe Rutherford Road, eventually turning south onto Highway 177A, and then onto Skitter Road. While on Skitter Road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a patrol unit.
The driver, identified as Daren Patton, was taken into custody without further incident. Patten is charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, driving while license suspended, and reckless driving.
