Holmes County native is new Washington State FFA president
Retired Ponce de Leon teacher Leroy Gillis is locally known for his contribution to local agriculture, having served many years as both the school’s Agricultural Education Teacher and Future Farmers of America (FFA) advisor.
His grandson, Sam Gillis, is following in his footsteps as a leader in FFA.
A former Holmes County student, Sam Gillis is now a senior at Elma High School in Elma, Washington. He was elected as the Washington State FFA President during the 92nd Washington State Convention, held May 12-14, in Kennewick, Washington. Gillis will serve in the post for the next year.
He is the son of Ray and Emily Gillis of Olympia, Washington. He is the grandson of Leroy and Audrey Gillis of Westville and Marvin and Sarah Marley of Graceville.
