{CONTRIBUTED | FHP}

A Bonifay man is dead after a fatal crash with a tractor trailer on Highway 77, near Highway 388.

The crash occurred on the afternoon of May 9 when the driver of a truck failed to observe the brake lights of a tractor trailer in time.

According to FHP, the yellow Mack truck hauling an empty trailer was traveling northbound in the outside lane of Highway 77 as the driver slowed down approaching the traffic signal at Highway 388. The driver of the GMC truck was also traveling northbound on Highway 77 approaching the rear of the Mack truck when for unknown reasons the 80-year-old driver’s left side collided with the passenger right side of the tractor trailer’s trailer and right side portion. Both vehicles came to final rest in the outside lane of Highway 77.

The FHP release stated, “Sadly the driver of the truck was deceased upon arrival. This information is based on the initial response and preliminary investigation. We are thankful for all emergency service workers (Bay County Fire, Bay County EMS, Bay County Sheriff’s Office) who assisted on scene as well as the witnesses who stood in the heat to assist.â€
