Esto Fire Department creates Esto Fire Association

The Esto Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) has been dealt criticism in the past from Esto town clerk Ben Tew, regarding their fundraising account. This fundraising account was money accrued by the Esto fire department in their free time to create memorable events for the town such as Santa in the Park as well as July 4 fireworks show. This account is in no way related to or in association with the budget for the EVFD. At no point was there criticism by the town or town council over the use of the funds or in what way they were used. Fire Chief Cliff Kimble raised concerns with the town council during a recent town council meeting over the questioning by town clerk Ben Tew of who has control of accrued funds that were raised by the department. This questioning led the department to create an association to help manage oversite of the fundraising account.

Members of the Esto Fire Association include community members, a council member, and an EVFD representative. Current members of the board are Robert Sherman (EVFD Rep), Shawna Powell, Lana McGinty, Charles Peacock, and Esto Town Council Member Krystal Bien.

“It is our hope to continue the Santa at the Park and 4th of July events, and possibly have more events in the future,” said Bien.

The board’s mission statement is, “To enrich the lives of our small community by organizing and hosting inclusive events that foster connection, celebrate local culture, and build a stronger sense of belonging. We are committed to creating opportunities for residents to come together, support one another, and enhance the overall well-being of our community.”
