Noma Fire Rescue continues re-establishing the department

At an emergency meeting last month, Noma Town Council voted in Michael Hernandez as fire chief. Hernandez has since been moving swiftly with getting the department back in operational order to better serve the citizens of Noma and the surrounding areas.

In the past month all volunteers had the opportunity to take an Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (EVOC). As a result, everyone in the department is certified to operate an emergency vehicle when a call comes in. Also, the department has established a mutual aid agreement with the City of Slocomb. Slocomb is in Alabama approximately 10-15 minutes away and can respond to Noma if needed.

Chief Hernandez has also made plans for all volunteers to participate in a CPR and AED certification course. After this class, those that are certified can begin responding to injury and rescue calls in the area.

“We have made great progress, but we still have work to do,” said Chief Hernandez. “We are working to bring the department back into operation for the citizens.”
