Caryville votes to raise water rates

CARYVILLE – Caryville residents will soon see a hike in their water and garbage bills.

Town council members approved the rate increase when they met in regular session on Tuesday. 

For water rates, the increase will come in two steps, beginning Jan. 1, 2022, at which time rates for in-town customers will go up to $21 for the first 3,000 gallons and 50 cents for each additional 1,000 gallons thereafter. On January 1, 2023, that rate will increase to $1 per each additional 1,000 gallons. 

Commercial customers will see an increase of about $26 a month, with 50 cents for each additional 1,000 gallons until January 1, 2023, at which time the rate will increase to $1 for each additional 1,000 gallons. 

While most utility customers are located within the town limits, service is also offered to those who reside just outside the town, with out-of-town rates slated to go up to $23 for the first 3,000 gallons and 50 cents for additional 1,000 gallons. As with the other service classifications,  out-of-town customers can also expect an increase to $1 per additional 1,000 gallons on Jan. 1, 2023. 

Garbage pickup prices are going up on January 1, 2022. 

In-town customers will increase to $21 a month, and rates for out of town customers will go up to $27 a month. 

Commercial customers can expect an increase to $40 a month, which will also bring one pickup per week. Another $40 will be charged for any additional pickups during the same week. 

Caryville Town Council will meet again in special session at 6 p.m. on Nov. 16.
