Standoff ends in arrest of Louisiana man

A Louisiana man landed in the Holmes County Jail after a brief standoff with Holmes County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Monday, March 14.

HCSO was dispatched to 81 Liquors in Ponce de Leon in reference to a man possibly under the influence and acting irrationally.

When HCSO arrived on scene a man was found sitting on a stump and according to HCSO the man was talking out of his head and holding a knife to his stomach. The man was later identified as Justin Yrle of Louisiana.

Yrle told deputies he had been smoking meth, drinking tequila and he wanted deputies to taze him so he would fall on the knife.

About a half hour of talking to Yrle, deputies were able to have him lay the knife down where they then took him into custody.

Yrle is charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest without violence.
