For the first time in Holmes County history, a county commission seat is unopposed. District 4 incumbent and BOCC Chairman Earl Stafford has held the seat since 2018 and will be retaining that position following the August 23 election.
Stafford says he is humbled to run unopposed. “It is hard to believe because county commission is a race that someone is going to be in,” said Stafford. “I’m just shocked because you don’t expect that in Holmes County. I am happy but it is also very humbling.”
The district two seat is also up for election with incumbent and BOCC Vice Chairman Brandon Newsom facing challengers Joshua Jackson, and Albert Jordan.
