UPDATED: Fatal hit-and-run suspect identified, in custody


UPDATE: The suspect in Saturday’s fatal hit-and-run has been identified as 38-year-old-Travis Lee Ray, who is currently on felony probation.

FHP reports Lee struck and killed a cyclist on State Road 20 and Bay County and fled the scene, traveling into Washington County.

Lee, who has recorded addresses in both Milton and Panama City, is now in custody following a pursuit involving Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, and K9 Units from Holmes Correctional Institution and Northwest Florida Reception Center.

“We are grateful to the motorist who was aware enough to see something and say something,” said FHP spokesman Lt. Jason King. “This led to identification of the vehicle and apprehension of the suspect driver. We are also thankful for how multiple agencies came together so quickly, working in unison to protect our citizens and apprehend criminals.”

Lee is charged in Bay County with leaving the scene of a fatal crash and driving while license suspended. He is additionally charged in Washington County with driving while license suspended and leaving the scene of a crash. More charges are pending.

UPDATE: Suspect is now in custody. We will give more information as soon as it is available.

PREVIOUS UPDATE: K9-units are now on the ground with air support also helping with the search. The search area is currently in the area of Mud Hill Road and Bonnet Pond Road.

Washington County SheriffÂ’s deputies are in pursuit of a suspect who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run in the area of Highway 20 in Bay County.

The unknown suspect fled into Washington County and abandoned the white Ford Excursion they were driving on Mud Hill Road in the Wausau area before fleeing on foot. The passenger bailed from the vehicle and is unconscious. EMS is enroute to the scene.

Sheriff Kevin Crews states there is currently no description of the suspect but asks that the public be on alert and call 911 if they see any suspicious activity.
