After the August 20 election day, the race for Holmes District School Board, District 4 was too close to call. The candidates, Shirley Ownes and Derek Worley agreed to a recount that took place on August 23.
Every ballot was counted by machine, with over and under ballots being verified by hand. After the recount the totals varied by one vote from election day. The final vote counts are Shirley Owens receiving 1,953 votes and Derek Worley receiving 1,959 votes.
“I am so grateful,” said Worley. “The communication between the Supervisor of Elections and canvassing board has been great.”
