Alabama man charged with stealing concrete truck out of Holmes County

On Monday, February 23, a Holmes County jury found Dwight Cedric Joshua Adams, 75, guilty of Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle. He was sentenced to 83 months in prison, State Attorney Larry Basford announced.

The charge is a third-degree felony, typically punishable by up to 60 months, but Adams’ criminal history, including Robbery with a Firearm, Felony Battery, and Indecent Exposure, resulted in a sentence exceeding the statutory maximum.

Adams was arrested in Alabama, near the location where the stolen concrete truck was found wrecked in a ditch in July 2024.

Holmes County Chief Assistant State Attorney Jacob Cook presented evidence, including video showing Adams stealing the truck in Ponce de Leon. Alabama deputies recovered the vehicle and located Adams nearby. Surveillance video from inside the truck identified him, although he initially provided a false date of birth, claiming he was 55. Further investigation confirmed his true date of birth and criminal history.

Basford acknowledged the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office for its coordination with Alabama authorities and noted the victim’s cooperation.
