The Holmes County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) continues its collaborative efforts to improve roadway safety across the region. The team, composed of representatives from multiple local agencies and supported by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), meets regularly to identify traffic concerns and explore potential solutions.
During the most recent meeting on May 14, FDOT provided updates on several intersections previously discussed by the team.
At Douglas Ferry Road (280/79), Bonifay Fire‑Rescue has submitted crash data from numerous responses at the intersection. Following engineering evaluations and review of crash trends, FDOT determined that improvements are warranted. Planned upgrades include additional beacons and lighting, with ongoing monitoring to assess effectiveness. Washington County Fire Services also joined the discussion to offer insight from the neighboring county.
At St. John’s Road / Son‑In‑Law Road / Highway 79, crash data and response information provided by Bonifay Police Department and Bonifay Fire‑Rescue led FDOT to conclude that a traffic signal is warranted. Funding will now be pursued for the project, though a construction timeline has not yet been established.
The CTST meets approximately every other month and encourages public participation and feedback. The next meeting is scheduled for August 6 at 6 p.m. at the Holmes County Board of County Commissioners Office, with a livestream option available for virtual attendees.
