Holmes Council on Aging set to open doors of newly renovated center 

The Holmes County Council on Aging is preparing to move into its newly renovated building at 210 W. Kansas Avenue in Bonifay, with a tentative transition date of September 1. The move marks a major milestone for the organization, which has operated out of a temporary location at 701 East Pennsylvania Avenue for approximately two years while construction was underway.

The renovation project represents years of planning and investment aimed at expanding services and improving the quality of life for seniors across Holmes County. The Council broke ground on the remodel in August 2025, celebrating the start of a project funded by an approximately $1.3 million grant and supported by numerous community leaders.

One of the most significant champions of the effort was Robert “Bob” Lewis Jones, former Chairman of the Republican Party of Holmes County, who passed away in 2022 before the project could be completed. Executive Director Michael Brown said the finished facility stands as a tribute to Jones’ dedication.

“Seeing this come to fruition honors his memory,” Brown said during the groundbreaking ceremony.

The renovated center includes a wide range of upgrades designed to better serve local seniors. Improvements feature:

• A brand‑new commercial kitchen
• ADA‑compliant bathrooms
• Walk‑in freezers
• Expanded dining space
• New AC units
• Repaved parking

Brown said the expanded space and modernized amenities will allow the Council to serve more seniors and offer higher‑quality programs and services. He also credited the completion of the project to the combined efforts of local officials and the broader community.

“We are so excited to move into the new space. It is thanks to our community partners—including county commissioners, representatives like Shane Abbott, and local businesses—that this is possible,” he said.

As the organization prepares for its move‑in, the Council is also seeking community support to help furnish the newly renovated kitchen. Donations are being accepted through an Amazon wish list, which includes items such as cooking utensils, cleaning supplies, storage shelves, and storage containers. The Council plans to announce a grand opening once the final stages of the move are complete.
