House fire on Lily Drive prompts multi‑agency response in Holmes County

An early morning residential structure fire on Lily Drive in Holmes County prompted a multi-agency response Thursday, July 30, with Holmes County Fire Rescue crews from the Gritney, Ponce de Leon and Pittman Fire Districts, along with Bonifay Fire-Rescue and Chipley Fire Department, responding.

According to officials, the preliminary investigation indicated the fire was caused by a lightning strike. The lightning struck a tree near a propane tank, damaging the propane line that supplied the home’s stove. This resulted in a propane fueled fire that quickly spread.

One resident sustained severe burns and smoke inhalation and was transported by Holmes County EMS for emergency medical treatment.

Officials noted the quick response and coordinated efforts of all agencies involved, which helped bring the fire under control and ensured immediate medical care for the injured resident.
