HCSO reminds public of sex offender registration requirements

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, alongside FDLE, is conducting sex offender registration compliance checks and reminding the public of Florida’s reporting requirements. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents and registered sexual offenders of Florida’s registration requirements as local deputies, in coordination with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, conduct compliance checks throughout the county.

Under Florida Statute 943.0435, individuals designated as sexual offenders are required to maintain accurate and current registration information with law enforcement. Requirements may include reporting permanent, temporary or transient residences; employment information; telephone numbers; email addresses and other internet identifiers; vehicle information; and other identifying information required by law.

Registered offenders must also complete periodic in-person reregistration based on their registration status and report certain changes within timeframes established by state law. Florida law generally requires registration for life, although statutory exceptions and procedures for removal may apply in certain circumstances.

According to HCSO, compliance checks are conducted to ensure registered offenders are meeting their legal obligations and that information available to law enforcement and the public remains accurate.

Failure to comply with Florida’s registration requirements can result in additional criminal charges.The Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to familiarize themselves with Florida’s sexual offender registration laws and report suspected violations to local law enforcement.
