PDL Fire Department helps one of their own

A firefighter is trained to put out fires at any time of the day or night and will gladly suit up in their bunker gear to help their fellow man. When the call comes to help one of their own, it means just a little more.

On January 13, Ponce de Leon Volunteer Fire Department got that call. The home of one of their own, Matt Nobles, was in flames.

The blaze which began in the kitchen was extinguished in minutes and everyone in the family of six made it out safely; however, their home is severely damaged not only from the fire but from smoke, heat and water and is unlivable.

While the family was taken care of by the Red Cross in the immediate aftermath, there is a long road ahead for them. PDLFD is currently raising donations to help the Nobles family through this difficult time and is asking their community to help.

Donations can be dropped off in a sealed envelope with Nobles name on it at the Ponce de Leon Fire Station or they can be done through the PDLFD Facebook Page in a numbers fundraiser post.

Chief Doug Remmel says it is times such as these that fellow firefighters come together. “We always help those in need, it is our job,” said Remmel. “When it comes to one of our own, we all come together. The outpouring of support from other departments has been overwhelming and we are eternally thankful for them.”
