County Manager David Corbin brought a proposal to the board concerning the recreational center which the commission regained last year. Corbin proposed using federal grant funds to repurpose the old gym into a county administration building. A joint grant between the city and the county was awarded for revitalization of the building which makes Commissioner Clint Erickson question the ability to use the funds in a different way.
While commissioners are excited to have the project come to fruition, it is unclear if they will be able to do so. Jennifer Green with Liberty Partners is expected to look into the issue.
Should the county be given the go-ahead, the building would provide approximately 8,000 square feet of office space for various county offices.
The board approved a motion for Liberty Partners to manage grants obtained by the county for a fee of one percent out of each grant awarded. By contracting with Liberty Partners, administration employees will not have the added burden of managing the 15 grants and any future grants the county has been or will be awarded.
In other items, the board tasked Attorney Nate Nolin with looking into setting hours of use for the public access boat ramp at Dogwood Lakes. The issue stems from calls coming into county staff concerning people on the lake being disruptive to residents. Nolin is expected to bring his recommendation back to the next meeting.
The Holmes County Board of County Commissioners will meet again in regular session at 9 a.m. March 21.
