One man is dead, and another is in custody after a fatal shooting in Bonifay Monday night.

Few details were confirmed as of Tuesday morning; however, Bonifay Police Chief Jimmy Macon has confirmed the victim, a 30-year-old Bonifay man, was fatally shot at a residence on East Pennsylvania Avenue around 9:43 p.m.

According to reports, officers with the Bonifay Police Department arrived on scene within 2 minutes of receiving the call and took one suspect into custody.

Some family members have elected to release the victim’s name on social media; however, that information – and the name of the suspect – have not yet been officially released.

‘This is an ongoing investigation, and we will give more information as soon as possible,’ said Chief Macon, who was also on scene. ‘The victim’s mother has been notified, but we are not yet ready to give more details. I would like to also thank Sheriff John Tate and the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this case.’

Chief Macon anticipates more information to be released by end of day. Check back here for an update to this developing story.
