An attempted traffic stop in Bonifay turned into a vehicle pursuit by the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office that went across Highway 90 and ended in an arrest.

Bobby Swisher of Pensacola was charged with attempted burglary, trespassing, and resisting an officer without violence.

HCSO deputies went to stop a vehicle Fisher was traveling in on Saturday, Sept. 9, since the vehicle ran off Sandpath Road multiple times. The driver, who was not identified, did not comply.

They then reportedly drove through town and ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 79 and Highway 90.

‘The pursuit continued down several streets in Bonifay, then eastbound on Highway 90,’ a HCSO news release said. ‘The suspect vehicle abruptly turned into a private driveway, went behind the residence, continued through a fence into a pasture, and ultimately into a ditch.’

Authorities said the driver then fled the vehicle and ran across Highway 90 on foot. The driver is still at large as law enforcement believes they was  picked up by another vehicle.

Meanwhile, a homeowner near the area reported a break-in where Fisher was found hiding, according to HCSO.

‘Swisher refused to cooperate with commands, but was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Holmes County Jail,’ the news release said.

Swisher also has active warrants out of Navajo County, Arizona.
