Jason Powell is once again running for the Bonifay City Council, this time as mayor.
“I am a lifelong resident of Bonifay where I currently reside with my wife, Kisha Smith Powell,” Powell said. “Between us, we have four children and three grandchildren.”
Powell previously ran for Seat 1 in 2023. Election Day is Tuesday, March 26.
“I am a 1990 graduate of Holmes County High School,” Powell said. “I also attended Chipola Junior College for a year and a half. I left college to grow and elevate our family business to the prominent standard where we operate today.”
Powell has been actively involved in the community for most of my life and he said he is “devoted to progress within our city.”
“At the age of 21, I joined the Bonifay Fire and Rescue. I served numerous years as a volunteer and have held the positions of assistant fire chief and fire chief during my tenure,” Powell said. “During my time as fire chief, I initiated the process of getting our volunteers Fire I certified, a program that has continued to be implemented to date.”
Additionally, Powell has held the position of the Young Farmer and Rancher President and served on the Holmes County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
“I have been an avid participant at the Bonifay City Council meetings and Charter Review Committee meetings,” he said.
If elected, Powell said he would introduce a “professional and business mindset back into” City business.
“I aim to assist in creating a budget to reduce wasteful spending and avoid new imposed taxes to compensate for careless expenditures,” he said.
Powell also said it is his goal to “effectively work alongside other county government agencies” such as the Holmes County Board of County Commissioners, Tourist Development Council, Chamber of Commerce, and the Holmes County Development Commission to facilitate an effective strategy to assure positive growth to Bonifay.
“A cleaner Bonifay is necessary, from the streets to the city government,” he said.
Election Day hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the temporary City Hall location, 401 McLaughlin Ave.
