Two Holmes County locals are preparing for Southern Lights, a talent search event held in Marianna, FL in partnership with Chipola College.
“This year there will be more prizes than ever with up to $10,000 for the grand prize, recording deals, Chipola College scholarships, a video project prize, and even the audience choice award.” said Southern Lights in a press release.
Bonifay residents, Bailee Steverson and Eliza Prince are set to perform at the live event this July. Each of them has prepared songs of their choice to sing on the Chipola stage, ranging from country to worship.
Bailee Steverson has been performing through drama departments at school and Alabama’s SEACT and loves the stage. When asked about her plan for her music she “wants to go as far as I possibly can, there’s really nothing else I want to do for a living.” said Steverson.
Eliza Prince has lived in Bonifay since she was 8 years old, moving from Birmingham, AL. Growing up in a musical family, she was influenced by her dad’s southern gospel quartet, her mom’s involvement with praise teams in the area, and stepfather’s talent of being a drummer. “I am going into the 10th grade, and I have been involved in the drama department since 5th grade and I love it so much, this pushed me to do this competition.” said Prince.
“Artist that come through our show have gone on to sign record deals, compete in American Idol, The Voice, and some even receiving awards for their talents in Nashville, TN. Watching artist grow and develop is such an exciting part of this process each year and I can’t wait to see what’s next.” said Dykes.
Tickets are on sale now on their website, www.southernlights.cc or at the Chipola College Box Office. The event has limited seating, so everyone is encouraged to buy their tickets early. There will be a red-carpet event each night starting when the doors open at 6pm. Friday night is Beef O’ Brady’s night where after the show, everyone will have the opportunity to meet these up-and-coming artists at Beef O’ Brady’s Marianna.
