City of Bonifay approves plans for stormwater park

Earlier this year, the City of Bonifay was awarded a $2.5 million grant from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the development of a new environmental initiative. The project, known as the “Resilient Stormwater Park,” will be located between Moody Street and South Depot Street. 

The park will feature a variety of amenities designed to enhance both its functionality and aesthetic appeal. Among these are a walking track that will surround the property, landscaping to integrate the park with its natural surroundings, and lighting to ensure safety and usability during evening hours. In addition, Mayor Larry Cook has proposed the inclusion of a recirculating fountain for the park’s pond. This feature, currently being priced by Melvin Engineering, aims to prevent the stagnation of the water and further elevate the park’s attractiveness. 

The groundbreaking for this project is scheduled for Fall of 2025, making a sustainable way to control storm water in the city.
