Holmes County native slides into double-a

In an impressive career milestone, Colby Jones, a standout alum from both Holmes County and Northwest Florida State College, has become the first player from the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft to reach the Double-A level. Jones, drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 13th round as the 401st overall pick, continues to rise quickly through the Braves’ minor league system.

Jones began his 2024 professional journey with the Augusta Green Jackets, the Braves’ Single-A affiliate, in early August. His performance on the field quickly caught the attention of the Braves’ organization, resulting in his promotion to High-A ball with the Rome Emperors after less than a month. Now, in a significant achievement, he has been called up to the Mississippi Braves, the team’s Double-A affiliate.

Prior to being drafted, Jones had committed to playing baseball at the University of Alabama. However, the talented infielder chose to forgo the remaining two years of his college eligibility to sign with the Braves and pursue his dream of a professional baseball career.
