Bonifay Fire-Rescue has been raising funds for their department during the weekend of
Bonifay’s Northwest Florida Championship Rodeo since 2004. From 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, both
community members and rodeo visitors can savor the department’s signature pancakes inside
the BFD station or grab a to-go plate.

The Shay McCormick Memorial Pancake Breakfast serves multiple purposes for Bonifay Fire-
Rescue. It is a chance to tour the fire station and trucks, meet local first responders, and support the
department.

Chief Travis Cook explains, “The breakfast allows us to connect with residents outside of
emergency situations.” In 2018, BFD decided to name the breakfast in honor of former Chief Shay McCormick.

McCormick formed the fundraiser after his own ideas and the event begins to grow each year.
“Chief McCormick had an uncanny ability to provide outstanding hospitality while serving great
food and fellowshipping,” added Cook.

Last year’s funds made the recent purchase of Utility 1, a multipurpose rescue UTV, possible.
The breakfast plates include pancakes, sausage, and a beverage. Plates will be available for 10
dollars, and additional donations to the department are welcome. Bonifay Fire-Rescue is at 809 S. Waukesha Street in Bonifay.
